Wedding Inspiration: Rachael and Keaton

Today we are very excited to bring to you the wedding of one of our very own FQ members and flower superstar, Rachael of Form Floral Design, and her partner Keaton’s special day.

The pair chose The Picker’s Hut by Invercarron Wines, in Broadmarsh, about 30 minutes from Hobart, for their celebrations earlier this year.

We’ll let Rachael tell us all about it, brace yourself for some seriously beautiful blooms and images…

We chose early March, which is a beautiful time of year in Tasmania with access to some amazing flowers, however right in the middle of wedding season – my bad!

We wanted the day to be really relaxed, we woke up together and had breakfast on the deck watching the sun rise over the valley before heading down to the Ceremony location to start setting up the florals. I had my 10/10 helper Lil of @squidinkfloristry on the tools and I could not have asked for a better flower friend by my side. We had pre-ceremony drinks as our guests arrived and it was great to be able to spend that time together with them (then our greyhound Charlie arrived and stole the show).

I was very undecided on florals up until a few weeks before. In terms of flower varieties, I gave my growers my colour palette and a handful of style inspo based on what I knew they had in the field at the time and then let them do their thing. The dahlia that caught everybody’s eyes were Form by Duke’s from The Hut Flower Farm, along with some of the most perfect garden roses there ever were. Clifton Blooms came through with the best Cosmos a cosmos lover could ask for, along with the Scabiosa Fama, which I absolutely adore.

For the Ceremony I wanted something that would be a statement, but didn’t want it to be too much work and I wanted them to be easily transported to the Reception which was only a short drive away. I decided to go with overflowing urn arrangements as the Ceremony location was in a beautiful green garden with the homestead being a stunning refurbished sandstone building.

We had an intimate dining table for our Reception at The Picker’s Hut. We wanted the space to be beautifully styled with lots of textures in the table styling and florals. This space is a little more modern, so we kept this in mind when designing the arrangements. We limited the number of flower varieties per arrangement to bring a more modern feel to the designs, while using quite romantic and whimsical florals.

Editors note: we asked Rachael what her favourite floral moment was…

I loved them all, please don’t make me choose! However, it has to be the bouquet. I was wearing a short lilac dress so I had some silk ribbons from Songbird Silk that I had already picked out and based the florals around that. I pulled out my favourite stems and kind of just started putting it together without any real thought to it. I knew I wanted it to be oversized with cosmos dancing through it (because it is a fav). I created it in the bathroom of our Reception venue with my girls out in the kitchen working on the table florals. It all came together so effortlessly and it was such a great day.

There isn’t a single thing I would change about my flowers, which I think comes down to being so open to what was in season and not having any set ideas on what it ‘needed’ to look like and allowing it to all come together as it was meant to. I had an idea of what I wanted the space to look and feel like, but in no way had anything set in stone. I think approaching planning your wedding florals like this allows for such incredibly unique design as it allows everything to come together in complete harmony.

Your wedding day will be one of the best days of your life, you need to be surrounded by the best people. We knew who we wanted on our team because we loved their style and vibe and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Find the people because you vibe with them and trust them completely, they’ll bring your day to life in the best way possible.
